AFC Bournemouth are an English football club based in Bournemouth, England who play their home matches at Dean Court, currently known as the Vitality Stadium as part of a stadium sponsorship.
With a capacity of only 11,364, the Vitality Stadium is one of the smallest grounds in the Premier League – only newly promoted Luton Town has a smaller stadium, which only holds just over 10,000 fans! AFC Bournemouth have played home games at the ground for over 100 years, first competing there in 1910.
The club was originally founded in Autumn 1899, competing under the name Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic FC. They changed their name to AFC Bournemouth in 1972, their reason being to make sure they would appear first in an alphabetical list of English clubs!
Nicknamed The Cherries, the team traditionally played in red shirts with white sleeves before their strip was changed to red and black stripes, based on the famous kit of Italian giants, AC Milan.
The club has won four trophies in it’s history and in the 2014–15 campaign, AFC Bournemouth won the Championship title, which earned them promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history.
There are a number of ways to get to Vitality Stadium. The ground is within walking distance of both Bournemouth and Pokesdown train stations, as well as being serviced by buses. Supporters are also able to walk from Boscombe and Lansdowne, where there are a variety of shops, bars and restaurants.
Turnstiles open 90 minutes before kick-off, allowing access to the concourse, serving food and drink and toilet facilities to use.
Bournemouth are one of the only clubs in the Football League and Premier League who don't have a direct rival, so you can avoid any intense derby days and enjoy a trip to the Vitality Stadium and a great day out by the sea!
